Givenchy Pre-Fall 2012 Lookbook

It’s no secret that I’m crazy for Givenchy (who isn’t?) and this collection is just another reason why Givenchy is becoming the most-watched house out there by men and women alike.

It features the same design elements of previous collections like the shark-tooth lanyards from the women’s line, marine-inspired elements, tons of leather, cut-outs, men’s earrings, the ever-present sandals, street-wear, the infamous rottweiler, stars, and the color green. The blue is also a nice touch, a color which I haven’t seen at Givenchy before.

I love that they used Simone Nobili. The lookbook also features Willy Cartier but I thought he looked a bit awkward in the looks. While Simone was perfectly suited to the urban backdrop and masculine styling.

I know it’s been covered by everyone and their mother but this is my take on it.

Here are my favorites:

I’ll either get the sweater or the t-shirt version, depending on price and availability.

I love the cut-outs in this sweater.

This army jacket is MAJOR. I love the pure-white fur hood.

Okay, one Givenchy post done. Two more to go.

Good job, Riccardo.

There’s been so much controversy with Tom Ford’s Vogue Paris Christmas Issue, more specifically the editorial aptly named “Cadeaux” featuring little girls dressed up in grown-up couture and jewels. Thoughts of pedophilia and JonBenét Ramsey come to mind. I don’t deny it’s a little creepy but it’s nothing new.

I think it’s a little funny actually. You only see evil if you’re thinking evil. I’ve seen editorials in American issues of Elle and Harper’s Bazaar featuring little children dressed up as their adult counterparts before. And why all the hype so much later? The magazine’s been out for MONTHS. I suspect some demented and very religious group of people, I dare to say they may even mostly be Americans, are trying to start SHIT up. UGH.

Now enough of all that negativity, let’s appreciate how artfully done the editorial is. No expense was spared. I bet those custom size dresses are worth thousands. It’s  a fantasy, playing dress up, very innocent. That’s all it is. Gawd, when I was a little boy, I dreamed of being these little girls. So jealous.

Some even speculated that all this controversy was part of the reason Carine Roitfeld left her position of ten years as Editor-in-Chief of the famous magazine. She said she was always more of a stylist than a magazine editor and wanted to pursue other things. I really hope that wasn’t the case. I know people have to be held accountable for their actions but this didn’t hurt anyone except some idiot’s delicate sensibilities.

Goodbye Monsieur Decarnin

Like many things as of late, I was shocked to find out, months after the fact, that Christophe Decarnin was let go/left Balmain.

Now, as much as I love Fashion, I don’t follow fashion news religiously like some other bigger and better bloggers. It’s not that I don’t care, it’s more that I don’t pay much attention to news in general. It’s a generational thing. And most news is about the horrible things happening in the world anyway, I tend to not, dwell on those kinds of things.

It’s the same thing with me for the many seasons, pre-collections, resort, one-off, and collaborations within the fashion world. I don’t like watching shows seconds after they show half-way across the world. I like to wait and see which collections stand out, which are selected for magazine spreads, which garments are celebs wearing on the red carpet.

So I totally missed the buzz in March during Paris Fashion Week when Decarnin didn’t make his bow after showing his latest collection for Balmain. There were rumors of drug abuse and late nights out, exhaustion, mental illness, and even not wanting to be there at the show. In the end, the general consensus seems to be that the designer has chosen to “leave” Balmain after only five years at the helm of one of fashion’s most celebrated brands. His first collection for the brand was in 2007, much more subdued than his following collections for the brand. I mean, HE single-handedly brought HUGE statement-making shoulders into fashion again. One of the hottest things in fashion since his Spring 2009 Ready-To-Wear collection, featuring over-the-top Military jackets and ripped tie-dye motorcycle jeans paired with Swarovski crystal and spike heels. Immediately becoming a hit with Fashion editors and fans everywhere. But also very unattainable due to extravagant prices reaching over $10,oooUS for a dress and $2,000US for holey tees. And dare I say it’s not even Couture but RTW, at those prices!

But it still doesn’t stop us from hoping and dreaming:)

More about his departure from this article.

FALL 2009 RTW – FALL 2011 RTW

Another one bites the dust.

Now let’s take some time to appreciate some of his highly coveted pieces…

These shoes were seen everywhere from Lady GaGa’s Paparazzi music video to reality stars like Audrina Patridge.

This gilded and brocade collection wasn’t as well received as his others, but I do love the gold and romantic feel to the clothes.

Jennifer Connelly  has some of the biggest BALLS when it comes to wearing Head-to-Toe looks straight from the Runway. And being able to pull it off. Sorry SJP:(

I’ve seen copycats of these Balmain Homme sweats everywhere!

RIP Michael Jackson

The late King of Pop was said to have been Christophe Decarnin’s biggest inspiration when designing his collections for Balmain.

No one can wear Balmain like the Great Kate.

Ke$ha wished she could look as FIERCE as this.

I want the jacket and that BELT!

Emmanuelle Alt, new Editor-in-Chief of French Vogue, wears Balmain like GAP. A piece worn for everyday of the week.

I’ll always remember Gwyneth Paltrow like this. It blew my mind how simple and chic she looked. Top to bottom, it’s a perfect look. I was surprised the lace dress underneath was Balmain. Then I think of Decarnin’s earlier 2007 collection, which was softer.

I love the look above. The blazer is perfection. And so is the styling.

My heart is breaking for all the unborn collections Decarnin would have given birth to were he to have continued on at Balmain, like Karl at Chanel. Oh how I hate the reality of public trading!

Crossing my fingers and toes I’ll be able to buy vintage Balmain Homme pieces in the future when I’m dirty rich and skinny enough to fit into those jeans without looking a fat sausage. Hey, I’m talking to you BEYONCÉ.

I’m dying to know who they’ll appoint for the head position. Maybe a duo like at Valentino,  someone already behind-the-scenes at Balmain, which is said to be highly likely.

Til next time:)

Farewell John Galliano for Dior

John Galliano fucked it up.

It’s just sad. It’s horrible what he said but we all make mistakes. Gawd knows how much he fucked up, he probably feels more so than we do. Losing everything after 15 years for a few, more than a few, choice words in a bar.

I won’t even give the disgusting video the time of day on this blog, but I have seen it. Look for it on Youtube. The question that popped into my head when I saw it was, ‘Why come out in the open now?’ The video was taken before the incident that got him arrested. Violence and prejudice should never be tolerated, but I think he was just drunk or if he wasn’t we’ll never know because we weren’t there.

I think Dior may have fired him for other reasons besides the arrest and racism charges. His designs have become stagnant for the past few seasons. And coupled with the recent events would only lead to Dior financial disaster. So Dior looked out for number 1 and did what they had to do. Which I think is very unfair after so many years and Galliano has been credited for the design house’s huge financial success. But when is life ever fair?

Questions keep on popping in my head like…What’s next for Galliano? Who will take his place? Time will tell. We’ll know soon considering how fast the powers-that-be at Alexander McQueen found his successor after his untimely passing.

Regardless of these ugly and sad circumstances, John Galliano will always remain an artist in my eyes. Let’s remember him at Dior at his best. The pictures and videos below are my most memorable Christian Dior moments throughout the years.

Nicole Kidman at the 1997 Academy Awards.

Gisele Bundchen starring in the Spring/Summer 2003 ad campaign.

Who can forget those cyclops shades? I’ve always wanted one against my own better judgement.

I love this dress. I think it’s the ultimate modern princess/hot bitch dress a girl could own.

I will always remember the time I saw LeAnn Rimes wearing it in her “Suddenly” music video. I thought she looked so good. I only learned after the fact that it was Dior.

Baby boy you stay on my mind…..

The glitz and the drama of Egypt of the Haute Couture Spring 2004 collection will remain in my mind forever.

Then came the Origami/Madame Butterfly Spring 2007 Haute Couture collection…

The runway show for the Fall/Winter 2007 RTW collection was so memorable for me because of the opening song “No More” by Jamelia, such an empowering song for such a strong feminist-looking collection. Take a look at the video below for what I mean…

These Fall/Winter 2007 RTW ads starring Jessica Stam are just iconic.

I saw Iman wearing the dress Above on the second season of The Fashion Show.

John Galliano has a lot to be proud of for his work with Christian Dior.

And I’m sure there’s more that I missed that are worthy of my notice but these are the ones that came to the forefront of my mind.

Only time will tell if John Galliano will rise from the ashes of his carreer.

And though I’m sad now, I can’t help but feel excited for what’s coming.

Till next time:)

I can go on forever about why I like this new designer. He’s like a convergence of my favorite designers, I don’t want to name which ones because there’s no point. He’s definitely one to watch out for. Go to his website for more.

So sorry I haven’t posted in awhile. Busy with school finals. Wish I could post my final fashion sketches and final dress project! I’m so proud of myself. I’ll post them ASAP. But alas, the sketches are stuck at school for the summer. I have the final dress but I gotta take pictures and style it and all that jazz. It’ll be a production!

Now I’m free! Yay! I can finally enjoy my free time without unfinished schoolwork at the back of my mind.
