YOU DA ONE official video

It’s finally here. I don’t know why it was so hyped up. It’s nothing like Only Girl In The World or We Found Love, production-wise it’s so-so. But I like that she made a video for my favorite song on the new album.

And I’m one of the first few to see it:D

Balmain Homme 2011 Fur Vest

So I saw a picture of my favorite pop star Rihanna wearing a fur vest while she was in London and I immediately thought, “SICK!”

Then I remembered Balmain Homme Fall/Winter 2011 had something similar. I thought Rihanna’s may have been one and the same. After some backtracking of my tumblr posts, I found the authentic Balmain version.

I love anything fur and in your face so both are gorgeous to me. Too bad I was wrong. I love the idea of Rihanna wearing Balmain Homme.

Rihanna’s fur vest is more suited to the ladies and the rough-around-the-edges appeal of the Balmain version is more menswear.

On another note, school has kept me busy and kinda depressed to do or think about anything else so I’m kinda glad SOMETHING, as trivial as a fur vest, got me out of my everyday funk.

My tux jacket is still in pieces and super late so I have to bust my ass to finish it and not fail my tailoring class. So wish me luck anonymous readers!

Til next time:)

We Found Love

We Found Love – Rihanna featuring Calvin Harris

Yellow diamonds in the light
Now we’re standing side by side
As your shadow crosses mine
What it takes to come alive

It’s the way I’m feeling I just can’t deny
But I’ve gotta let it go

We found love in a hopeless place
We found love in a hopeless place
We found love in a hopeless place
We found love in a hopeless place

Shine a light through an open door
Love and life I will divide
Turn away ’cause I need you more
Feel the heartbeat in my mind

It’s the way I’m feeling I just can’t deny
But I’ve gotta let it go

We found love in a hopeless place
We found love in a hopeless place
We found love in a hopeless place
We found love in a hopeless place

Yellow diamonds in the light
Now we’re standing side by side
As your shadow crosses mine

We found love in a hopeless place
We found love in a hopeless place
We found love in a hopeless place
We found love in a hopeless place

We found love in a hopeless place
We found love in a hopeless place
We found love in a hopeless place
We found love in a hopeless place

There’s been a lot of criticism about the song being overriden by techno beats and very little lyricism but I think it’s great. It’s a DANCE song. And that’s what it is. Get over it, Haters.

On another note, I like Rihanna’s look for the upcoming music video for the song. It’s very rock-a-billy via 2011. Lots of stone-washed denim and red bandanas.  I can’t wait to watch the video due to all the buzz about her filming it in Ireland on a wheat field. Brings to mind the ‘Only Girl In The World’ video.

I DIE for the Balenciaga Spring 2011 Biker boots she’s wearing on the singles’ album cover.

I can’t wait to hear more about Rihanna’s new album already out in November. Damn she just keeps popping out hit songs. And I still have ‘What’s My Name?’ on repeat.

Goodbye Monsieur Decarnin

Like many things as of late, I was shocked to find out, months after the fact, that Christophe Decarnin was let go/left Balmain.

Now, as much as I love Fashion, I don’t follow fashion news religiously like some other bigger and better bloggers. It’s not that I don’t care, it’s more that I don’t pay much attention to news in general. It’s a generational thing. And most news is about the horrible things happening in the world anyway, I tend to not, dwell on those kinds of things.

It’s the same thing with me for the many seasons, pre-collections, resort, one-off, and collaborations within the fashion world. I don’t like watching shows seconds after they show half-way across the world. I like to wait and see which collections stand out, which are selected for magazine spreads, which garments are celebs wearing on the red carpet.

So I totally missed the buzz in March during Paris Fashion Week when Decarnin didn’t make his bow after showing his latest collection for Balmain. There were rumors of drug abuse and late nights out, exhaustion, mental illness, and even not wanting to be there at the show. In the end, the general consensus seems to be that the designer has chosen to “leave” Balmain after only five years at the helm of one of fashion’s most celebrated brands. His first collection for the brand was in 2007, much more subdued than his following collections for the brand. I mean, HE single-handedly brought HUGE statement-making shoulders into fashion again. One of the hottest things in fashion since his Spring 2009 Ready-To-Wear collection, featuring over-the-top Military jackets and ripped tie-dye motorcycle jeans paired with Swarovski crystal and spike heels. Immediately becoming a hit with Fashion editors and fans everywhere. But also very unattainable due to extravagant prices reaching over $10,oooUS for a dress and $2,000US for holey tees. And dare I say it’s not even Couture but RTW, at those prices!

But it still doesn’t stop us from hoping and dreaming:)

More about his departure from this article.

FALL 2009 RTW – FALL 2011 RTW

Another one bites the dust.

Now let’s take some time to appreciate some of his highly coveted pieces…

These shoes were seen everywhere from Lady GaGa’s Paparazzi music video to reality stars like Audrina Patridge.

This gilded and brocade collection wasn’t as well received as his others, but I do love the gold and romantic feel to the clothes.

Jennifer Connelly  has some of the biggest BALLS when it comes to wearing Head-to-Toe looks straight from the Runway. And being able to pull it off. Sorry SJP:(

I’ve seen copycats of these Balmain Homme sweats everywhere!

RIP Michael Jackson

The late King of Pop was said to have been Christophe Decarnin’s biggest inspiration when designing his collections for Balmain.

No one can wear Balmain like the Great Kate.

Ke$ha wished she could look as FIERCE as this.

I want the jacket and that BELT!

Emmanuelle Alt, new Editor-in-Chief of French Vogue, wears Balmain like GAP. A piece worn for everyday of the week.

I’ll always remember Gwyneth Paltrow like this. It blew my mind how simple and chic she looked. Top to bottom, it’s a perfect look. I was surprised the lace dress underneath was Balmain. Then I think of Decarnin’s earlier 2007 collection, which was softer.

I love the look above. The blazer is perfection. And so is the styling.

My heart is breaking for all the unborn collections Decarnin would have given birth to were he to have continued on at Balmain, like Karl at Chanel. Oh how I hate the reality of public trading!

Crossing my fingers and toes I’ll be able to buy vintage Balmain Homme pieces in the future when I’m dirty rich and skinny enough to fit into those jeans without looking a fat sausage. Hey, I’m talking to you BEYONCÉ.

I’m dying to know who they’ll appoint for the head position. Maybe a duo like at Valentino,  someone already behind-the-scenes at Balmain, which is said to be highly likely.

Til next time:)

Summer Catch-up 2011

Hi Blog,

It’s me, Fashionfatty. I’m sorry for neglecting you. I am glad to see that, according to the Site Stats, you’re doing well without me. Very well, in fact. Hello, over 2,000 overall views. No thanks to me. I know it’s been lonely and you’ve been sad . I promise to make it up to you. It’s been a bumpy ride this past semester in school and in life in general. I’ve been through a lot and so has the world. Now that everything has calmed down in my personal life, I’ll make more of an effort to make consistent posts. I know it’s been a while but now, I’m back!

– Eddie

Okay, now that all that nonsense has been said…let’s catch-up shall we.

1. RIP Elizabeth Taylor

2. My heart goes out to the victims of Japan’s Earthquakes and Tsunamis.

Click  here to donate  to the American Red Cross. Although there is a minimum donation amount of $10. If not, then I’m sure there are other ways you can help.

3.  Another school year, Fall 2010 – Spring 2011, has ended

I’m so happy that this year is over. It started out great. I made two dresses that I’ve very proud of.

I’m very proud of this dress. Completing this dress showed me I can actually take an idea from my mind and bring it to life, and even better than what I thought it could be. The materials, lace and satin, were a bitch to work with, but it was all worth it. I added the bow at the last minute to make it, as someone said, “more Valentino” and less scandalous. The bust is a deep-V after all.

The nude champagne dress was actually made before the black dress, both made for my Draping class last Fall. It’s a more classically romantic dress but it can be updated with the right accessories. I love the  scarf detail at the back, it flows while you walk. Either way I “got it out of my system” as my teacher would say.

Then as the second semester rolled by, I got more anxious and restless in my classes. I couldn’t explain it. I got lazy, couldn’t wait to get out of class, and did horrible work, in my opinion.

Then I had to go to the hospital. Without getting too deep into it, my recent difficulties of breathing and fatigue were due to something more serious than I thought. But during two days in the hospital, I couldn’t wait to go back to school. I got a reality check and the scare of my life. I’ve had to make lifestyle changes and luckily feel better physically. But due to the seriousness of my condition, I’ve had to make better choices. Whatever I had going on before that became insignificant.  I knew I had to make changes, in my life and attitude. I also got it out of my system and now I feel more motivated to create new and better stuff.

I didn’t have much time left in school after the visit to the doctor but I was able to make this dress. Excuse me for it’s simplicity but I made it in under a week. I think it turned out okay but it’s not perfect. Quick fact: Chiffon is a BITCH to work with. My teachers warned me, point taken.

Cheers to life scares and the future!

Down to more trivial things…

It’s always been a big part of my life. I sing to myself often but never in front of an audience. I never got over that fear of being judged, so no American Idol for me. And I’m positive there are more motivated and better singers out there. I’ve shifted a lot from the club music that Lady GaGa has had us mesmerized over to more subdued stuff like R&B.

Which brought on me buying Alicia Keys’ latest album The Element of Freedom on iTunes. Then I discovered this hidden jem:

Distance & Time – Alicia Keys

This song talks about long-distance relationships and being apart from your lover but I think it’s universal. For me, it’s about finding your soulmate and having the patience to wait. Either way, I think it’s just a beautiful song.

I’ve been listening to a lot of Lauryn Hill’s Miseducation of Lauryn Hill and Stacie Orrico’s Beautiful Awakening.

And my summer jam is California King Bed by Rihanna. I knew this song was a hit way before it was released as a single. Her music video and live performance of the song are just flawless.

I thought Rihanna was just another studio-voice singer, where they sound better on the album. I’m very happily surprised she sang the song as well live as on the record. I don’t think people give her enough credit. Try reaching those high notes. She’s only gotten better through the years. I’m definitely now one of her biggest fans.

5. Fashion

I needed a break from the “fashion world.” I was sick of being so into material things and appearances and beauty. Probably due to the scary things going on in my life and the world I just couldn’t put much focus on it for a while. Hence, the long hiatus from my blog. Now that everything has calmed down a bit, I can indulge in my little obsession with all things beautiful.

Here’s the off-shoot of fashion, my treasured Fashion Mags:

The first batch was given to me by my best-friend while I was in the hospital. You don’t know how much it meant to me. It was the gesture not the magazines that mattered. Hospitals are boring, just so you know. These were a welcome sight and distraction.

Thanks to my friend Ashley Q for the brass with black cord bracelet she made for me:) Contact me if you want a bracelet commissioned.

The magazines above are a must-have. Looking through them all, it was worth the $20 I spent. Britney in Dolce & Gabanna and Givenchy is just amazing. Lady GaGa kills it as always. The Vman is full of “candy” as my friends would say, yummy in fact.

As for real fashion, I haven’t seen any of the recent collections to make an informed opinion. But I do see a lot of camels and nudes, shocking colors, ultra-feminine designs, masculine lines, and the apache-rug patterns from Proenza Schouler Fall/Winter 2011/2012 collection, which are turning up on shoes, t-shirts, and bag.

Here’s an example of the classic Apache pattern:

And if that isn’t enough to understand what I mean, here are photos from Jak & Jil blog taken in the Proenza Schouler studio:

See more here.

I’m predicting everyone and their mother will be wearing an incarnation of the pattern come Fall 2011.

Well that’s it for now. I’m getting sleepy and it’s almost 4 in the morning in lovely Hawaii. Goodnight my anonymous readers.

Til next time;)

All Of The Lights

All of The Lights – Kanye West ft. Rihanna

The music video just premiered the other day but I only watched it not too long ago. I really like the song but it’s Kanye, if you know what I mean. And being a huge Rihanna fan, all I cared about was when in the video was Rihanna gonna make an appearance? AND I HATE THAT VEVO doesn’t let you view videos other than on their site or Youtube. FUCKING FAILLLLLLL!

She did not disappoint. Again she’s wearing a very revealing outfit. Lots of side-boob action going on. But all I care about is WHO MADE THE TOP?????

I had an inkling that the belt was Alaïa. Maybe it was the shape of it that gave it away. And I know Alaïa makes a lot of thick belts. I googled it (in images) and I found it on Olivia’s Obsession. According to her, it is by Azzedine Alaïa.

The belt in question:

It doesn’t really matter but I think it’s definitely Alaïa. Too bad they don’t have a website so I can confirm. Azzedine is notorious for being old-school.

As for the top, I think it’s Jean Paul Gaultier but  I could be sooooo wrong. All I can think of is….

Milla Jovovice in The Fifth Element, bandage costume by Jean Paul Gaultier

PLUS This:

Rihanna wearing Jean Paul Gaultier Spring 2011 Couture Collection – at the 2011 Grammys

Btw, I went to to look for the Grammy’s dress in the JPG collections and guess who’s wearing it on the RUNWAY?????

Jean Paul Gaultier Couture – Spring 2011 – Look 46

It’s none other than our favorite Femi-Man model, ANDREJ PEJIC!!!!!!!

I DIED A MILLION TIMES in a few seconds when I read the caption for who the model was. I first saw the picture first on Fashion Police on TV for the Grammys but I didn’t realize it then. He looks so gorg, you can’t even tell he’s a male model if you didn’t know any better. We first saw him on the JPG runway last winter for the JPG Spring 2011 Men’s Show.

Go here for more Andrej.

Damn, I didn’t realize the post was gonna be so long. I thought video, then Rihanna, then the Alaia belt pic, and I would be done. Oh well.
