Le Rêve

So we just had our big fashion show this past Saturday.

I wasn’t graduating, that’s next year, but I finally showed some of my designs in the show. In the Freshman section, which I personally think should be renamed to the Non-Senior section. I haven’t been a Freshman in college for years now.

I just felt like if I’m gonna bust my ass washing cars fundraising for the show I might as well show something of mine. Especially, when people who didn’t fundraise AT ALL or contribute anything to the program are allowed to show. LIKE WTF. Anyways, I’m bitter but that ain’t news.

I had a hard time finding models and trying to get accessories, shoes, and people to do hair and makeup. Thank goodness, it all worked out in the end. All thanks to my besty Ash and cousin Mary Ann who lent me shoes and accessories, my BEAUTIFUL models Neka and Pua, who are just amazing on and off the runway, my good friend Hannah who applied the flawless makeup on Neka,  someone from the Jacobe Salon who did the hair on both Neka and Pua.  My friend Olo, who’s just amazing, did his best to find models for my dresses. I can’t thank them enough.

Neka @ Wilhelmina Hawaii

Neka introduced me to a photographer named Sara Anslow right before this impromptu photoshoot.

The result is just gorgeous.

It was a long day but I was so happy in the end.

I congratulate my peers who are graduating this year. They all worked so hard. Ramie and Carmen, my home gurls, who I’ll miss like a muther after they leave school for bigger and better things.

Now I can’t wait for next year:)

*Update:

I just got this on facebook.

Thanks to Rob DiAntonio for this photo.

It’s another first, since all the other runway shots I ever took sucked.

Frankie Morello Fall/Winter 2012-2013 Collection

Don’t really know much about Frankie Morello other than he casts the hottest male models out there and is based in Milan. But I loved his collection of menswear this Fall. I especially loved the the studded jackets, laptop cases, and shoes, which were also studded.

The show was divided between a sleek city-boy look that was polished but edgy, and a rich nomad that had vague influences of American Indian and Indian culture. I was more interested in the city look, which explains the lack of the other looks.

Here are my favorites from the collection:

I love the styling of the slouchy tee over the shirt. Wish I could find more tees like that.

If I can’t find the studded shoes above, these heavier looking ones would do.

All photos above are from Homotography

The photo above is the only look I liked from the rich nomad portion of the collection. I though it was a successful look that I haven’t seen before. And I loved the slouchy gauzy shirt peeking out from under and the rusty red pants are perfect.

Here are some detail shots:

All detail photos from NY Mag

Can’t wait to see the pieces in online stores!

They’re prices are pretty reasonable. Especially the shoes!

Andrej’s Story

This video is like a mini documentary of Andrej Pejic’s life.

Watch It:

From his beginning in Bosnia, escape to Serbia, and teen years in Australia. To now, his life as a top model and unknown future.

I’m touched by how supportive his family is, despite the fact. It’s refreshing to see such positivity and love within a family.

His mom is too cute. She obviously loves her son.

And I like how Jean Paul Gaultier just adores him.

I LIVED for that chevron fur in the Jean Paul Gaultier show and then having to take pictures with those HOT male models. TDF! So jealous.

GO Andrej!

Andrej in Granny Chic

Our favorite Femi-man model Andrej Pejic did an interview back in March with fashion veteran Hilary Alexander, my fave fashion correspondent.

It’s no surprise she showed such compassion and kindness to our Andrej. I mean, she has seen it all so the shock value is only due to how pretty Andrej is

In the video, he is nothing but charming and polite. I love how he carries himself. Very relaxed and confident, with a bit of posh;)

Watch the video:

I really hope he gets more opportunities before and while modeling. I would DIE if I saw him on TV or a movie. Can you imagine?

Or dare I say it?

On Victoria’s Secret Runway show, he would sparkle as an  angel. I would just keel over, in the best way;)

Paris Fashion Week – Christian Dior Haute Couture FW 2011

Waiting for the show to start.

This is what the venue looks like…

Welcome to Dior 2011, post Galliano.

This is kind of shocking. I mean, Dior was the ultimate in runway. It was the show everyone always talked about or wanted to attend.

Let’s hope the fashion blows us away. Kind of wondering if the new people behind-the-scenes designed the collection or Galliano did?

The arrivals look promising…

ADR representing like she always does:)

Wondering who the dress is by. Brings to mind Mayan gold and Versace.

The show started!!!!

*****Update:

The show sucked.

I mean, it looked all over the place, tons of sequins and layers over layers, frizzed out hair, 70s makeup, odd maxi dresses, and fugly ball gowns.

I think they were going for a Carnival look. I have no clue.

My friend summed it up pretty well, “Worst show ever.”

He also pointed out that the resort collection was pretty good. Which leads me to beg the question, “How could you fuck up the couture collection?”

I’m speechless.

GaGa + Mugler Runway = Fashion History

This way one of the best runway shows I’ve ever seen.

The models were on point, Mugler’s creations were unforgettable, the styling was done by Nicola Formichetti, the hair and make-up looked avant garde, GaGa’s songs kept things bumpin’ and of course GaGa killed it.

There’s nothing more to say. Wait, one more thing…

IT WAS JUST A-MA-ZING.

Say what???

I.DIE.

Farewell John Galliano for Dior

John Galliano fucked it up.

It’s just sad. It’s horrible what he said but we all make mistakes. Gawd knows how much he fucked up, he probably feels more so than we do. Losing everything after 15 years for a few, more than a few, choice words in a bar.

I won’t even give the disgusting video the time of day on this blog, but I have seen it. Look for it on Youtube. The question that popped into my head when I saw it was, ‘Why come out in the open now?’ The video was taken before the incident that got him arrested. Violence and prejudice should never be tolerated, but I think he was just drunk or if he wasn’t we’ll never know because we weren’t there.

I think Dior may have fired him for other reasons besides the arrest and racism charges. His designs have become stagnant for the past few seasons. And coupled with the recent events would only lead to Dior financial disaster. So Dior looked out for number 1 and did what they had to do. Which I think is very unfair after so many years and Galliano has been credited for the design house’s huge financial success. But when is life ever fair?

Questions keep on popping in my head like…What’s next for Galliano? Who will take his place? Time will tell. We’ll know soon considering how fast the powers-that-be at Alexander McQueen found his successor after his untimely passing.

Regardless of these ugly and sad circumstances, John Galliano will always remain an artist in my eyes. Let’s remember him at Dior at his best. The pictures and videos below are my most memorable Christian Dior moments throughout the years.

Nicole Kidman at the 1997 Academy Awards.

Gisele Bundchen starring in the Spring/Summer 2003 ad campaign.

Who can forget those cyclops shades? I’ve always wanted one against my own better judgement.

I love this dress. I think it’s the ultimate modern princess/hot bitch dress a girl could own.

I will always remember the time I saw LeAnn Rimes wearing it in her “Suddenly” music video. I thought she looked so good. I only learned after the fact that it was Dior.

Baby boy you stay on my mind…..

The glitz and the drama of Egypt of the Haute Couture Spring 2004 collection will remain in my mind forever.

Then came the Origami/Madame Butterfly Spring 2007 Haute Couture collection…

The runway show for the Fall/Winter 2007 RTW collection was so memorable for me because of the opening song “No More” by Jamelia, such an empowering song for such a strong feminist-looking collection. Take a look at the video below for what I mean…

These Fall/Winter 2007 RTW ads starring Jessica Stam are just iconic.

I saw Iman wearing the dress Above on the second season of The Fashion Show.

John Galliano has a lot to be proud of for his work with Christian Dior.

And I’m sure there’s more that I missed that are worthy of my notice but these are the ones that came to the forefront of my mind.

Only time will tell if John Galliano will rise from the ashes of his carreer.

And though I’m sad now, I can’t help but feel excited for what’s coming.

Till next time:)

HCC Mini-Fashion Show 2011

HCC Fashion Tech Program did it’s yearly Mini-Fashion Show again this past Friday, and I finally got to be a part of it. Well, at least my dress did.

Here are the videos:

Part Un

Part Deux

My Dress:

My model is Pua, the dress was made in my draping class last semester. I gotta thank my model Pua for being so awesome. While all the girls were walking in heels, she still rocked it out on the runway in combat boots. I styled her with tough footwear and simple hair and makeup to not make it  look like we were trying to BE FASHION. I hate that. I also have to give it to Milan for doing the hair and makeup 20 minutes before the show. I added the bow for modesty, but I think it’s cute. Thanks to my good friend JennaBea for teaching me how to make a bow. The deep V was just getting vulgar by the second as I was looking at it with a detached critical eye. The bow gave the dress a more Valentino look, less mall girl. Ugh, did I just write that? Don’t judge me.

That day was just one of those rare good days. Got to see my stuff go down the runway, had a day out with my best friend, laughed a lot, ate good food, and finally got to go shopping. Checked out Forever21 on Kalakaua Ave finally, it was alright. I’d still rather have H&M.

Shopping post coming soon. Til next time.

Burberry Prorsum Spring 2011 RTW

This post would’ve been titled “Spring RTW 2011 #2” but I feel Burberry Prorsum Spring 2011 RTW deserved a post all by itself.

Here’s the looks I loved…there’s a lot. After you see them, you won’t blame me.

I just about died when I saw this collection. It’s so contemporary, the iconic Burberry trench is almost unrecognizable. Can you spot it? It’s there. Just to recap, there was tons of motorcycle detailing, leopard, snakeskin, gold studs and spikes, neon accented accessories, spiked leather pants, ruched drape-y dresses, frilly and cross-sectioned leopard dresses, military accented shoulders, lots of black and man-sandals on the men. Trends that are here to stay, military and motorcycle inspired clothing. Silver hardware on clothing giving way to GOLD, silver is getting kinda repetitive.

Take a bow, Christopher Bailey. You gave a good show.

Wish I could go to London and intern for him. Bailey is definitely becoming my favorite designer.

HCC Student Designer Fashion Show 2010!

My model Melissa  in my 1920s dress and I

(Yes, my sneakers are Lanvin x Acne Collection)

Friends at school RIESE KOCHI with Angelique in his design.

AMAZING! Watch out for him. I see big things for him.

Kim Kardashian is dat chu?

It was an event. Not bad for a school cafeteria.

My friend from school Carmen with super-tall models. So cute.

Designs by CHRISTOPHER CHING.

His workmanship is impeccable. Watch out for him too!

Carmen was supposed to wear this red mini-dress for the 1920s section that I ruched but it got cut out. That’s why she has heavy make-up on. Would have loved to see her walk! It was a horrible dress anyway.

With artist Remi Mead in CHRISTOPHER CHING’s design.

I look horrible but she looked too cute to not post the picture.

Love the shoulder cage! So avant-garde!

Gotta have some MANCANDY!

Guess which one’s my favorite? It’s soooo obvious. LOL! The one right above, duh.

The ‘fro got me. Who knew?!

The Vans Boat Shoes were a a nice touch. Island Prepster chic!

Menswear all by CURTIS HO.

It’s JAY SARIO from this past season’s Project Runway! L

HI-larious facial expression!

Beautiful dress made out of muslin.

Me with my fashion sketches. I spray-painted that border gold right before I left the house!

Can’t wait to take DRAPING class to learn how to make that black dress. And Tailoring class is a must for the jacket and bolero.

Desserts after the show.

Water sponsored by FIGI.

Apparently, Jay Sario used FIGI waterbottles for one of his designs so they fronted the water for us.

My friends rushed the tray carrying the chocolate covered strawberries!

Group picture with Jay Sario.

(L-R: Ashley, Andy South, Jay Sario, Jill, Marisha, Me)

Thanks Jill for having the cojones to ask him for a picture. And thanks to Jay’s friend/PR person Kelly(?) for making this happen.

Jay and my school buddies.

(L-R: Emilee, Jay, Carmen, Me, Ramie)

Strike a pose!

Me and my best friend. Thank you for supporting me, Ash.

The Fashion Show was great. Very entertaining and much more than I was expecting. Cleaning up wasn’t that great but had to be done. Overall, it was a great night. Can’t wait for my turn as a senior presenting my own line!
